Finishing up the welding bed framework
Trying the sheet metal on for looks!! So far so good!
Jason is teaching me how to read a tape measure correctly! Whew.....
He has the front piece of sheet metal in place and has measured out for the welding machine tray! The place for the welding machine to sit on the bed! Now to cut out the tray area.
This will be the base plate for the tray. Now to grind off the rough edges!
Welding down the edges of the tray to the framework!!
And the sheet metal and tray cut out is all welded in place!!
The tray base has been tacked into place, now to add the edging at each end!
Now, ALOT of welding will be done to permanently put the tray in place!!
Time to bring out the grinder and smooth off all the weld!
And there you have it! The tray all buttoned down and in place!!
Here you see the back piece of sheet metal in place - ready to begin the side skirting!
Taking measurements the right side skirting
This is the first piece of skirting being shaped down to fit the right side of the bed frame.
Notice the shape of the skirting! Jason designed this shape to bring an aerodynamic shape to the look of the welding bed!!
Now he is cutting the sheet metal to size to fit the skirting!
First section is now cut to fit the skirting!
Continuing the cut down the right side of the bed!!
Dry fitting the first piece of skirting...
Now the first piece of skirting is tacked in place!!
Dry fitting the next piece of skirting. Notice that he took off the outside tire of the truck in order to fit the skirting in place. When he cuts a hole for the wheels to ride then the tire will go back in place.
Lining up the edges and tacking the second piece of skirting in place. This piece was cut long and will be shaped down later to fit the rear of the welding bed.
Continuing to tack the piece in place until permanent welding will take place.
And there you have it!! Notice how the lines of the skirting line up perfectly!! This is going to look great after it is painted in a two toned paint!!
And now to introduce the supervisor of this job: Jethro !!!
